It builds on a step the city took in 2023, when then-Mayor Carolyn Goodman proclaimed October as Filipino American History Month in Las Vegas. Sally Balecha, chair of the NaFFAA Desert Mountain Region, reminded the crowd why the month matters. She spoke about the duty to preserve and share the stories of Filipino Americans whose sacrifices paved the way. As the program ended, NaFFAA-NV President Dr. Michael Sta. Juana rallied everyone in front of the glowing facade for a commemorative photo. Leaders in Filipiniana attire on the steps of City Hall. Youth participant Rolly Uclaray explained what the month means to him: “For me, Filipino American History Month is about being my parents’ American dream and finding ways to make that dream meaningful in my own life.” The Las Vegas Filipino Advent Chorale’s first community performance The night also marked the first community performance of the Las Vegas Filipino Advent Chorale. Sol Llasos, the Philippine Times’ Kuya Sol, conducts the group, with his wife, Janet Llasos, at the piano. The chorale formed in 2026 as the church choir of the Las Vegas Filipino SDA Church on West Mesquite Avenue. Some members sang in the former Fil-Am SDA Chorale, which staged a two-hour concert in 2016. The group was also slated to sing and dance at NaFFAA Nevada’s Fiesta Filipino at the M Resort on October 3. The Las Vegas Filipino Advent Chorale at City Hall.
