If you are sending a balikbayan box from Las Vegas to the Philippines, here is the short version: two shippers publicly confirm service to the Las Vegas area, none of them post a flat rate online, and the Philippine Bureau of Customs lets qualified senders bring in up to ₱150,000 worth of personal and household goods tax-free, up to three times a year. Everything below is sourced to the shipper’s own website or to the Bureau of Customs. Where a number was not published, we say so instead of guessing.

Which balikbayan box shippers actually serve Las Vegas?

Plenty of companies advertise Las Vegas pickup. Far fewer say it on their own website. We only list a shipper here if its own site confirms Southern Nevada service.

Atlas Shippers International

Atlas runs a physical Las Vegas branch and publishes the details itself: 2600 S. Maryland Parkway, Unit C, Las Vegas, NV 89109, reachable at (702) 858-0107 or toll-free (800) 285-2797. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 10am to 7pm, closed Sunday.

Atlas also lists a drop-off-only location inside The Postal Box at 6020 W. Badura Ave., Suite 110, Las Vegas, NV 89118. It is open Monday through Friday from 10am to 6pm and Saturday from 10am to 2pm. Phone: (702) 538-5100.

That Maryland Parkway address puts it right inside the corridor that has become the heart of Filipino Town in Las Vegas — walkable from the same stretch of restaurants and markets many families already visit on weekends.

Atlas refers to a “macho or regular box” and a “junior box” but does not publish dimensions, weight limits, or prices on its site. Call for a quote.

Manila Forwarder

Manila Forwarder states plainly that its coverage includes Las Vegas, alongside Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Kansas. It offers regular and jumbo boxes.

It is the only shipper in this group that publishes transit times: 30 to 45 days by ocean cargo and 3 to 7 days by air cargo, both to Metro Manila. Those windows matter enormously for holiday planning. Rates come from the company’s online calculator rather than a published price list.

LBC Express

LBC is the name most families know, and its US site publishes its four sea-freight box sizes:

  • 24″ × 18″ × 9″
  • 23″ × 17″ × 20″
  • 28″ × 18″ × 17″
  • 24″ × 18″ × 24″

One caveat worth stating clearly: LBC’s own US website does not list a Las Vegas or Nevada branch. Third-party directories do, but a directory listing is not the company confirming it. Use LBC’s official branch locator or its US hotline to confirm a drop-off point before you drive across town with a packed box.

The ones we left out

We checked Forex Cargo and Star Kargo as well. Neither confirmed Las Vegas or Southern Nevada service on its own website in a form we could verify, so we are not listing them. That is not a judgment on either company — only on what we could confirm from the source.

Why nobody publishes a flat rate

Balikbayan box pricing moves with ocean freight costs, fuel, destination province, and whether you want door-to-door delivery or port pickup. None of the shippers above posts a fixed dollar figure.

So treat any specific price you see quoted secondhand with caution. A rate posted in a community Facebook group last December is not a rate today. Call the shipper. The same habit of checking the source before repeating a number is what we wrote about in our guide to spotting disinformation in Filipino community channels.

When you call, have three things ready: the destination province or city, your rough box count, and whether you need pickup from your home in Henderson, North Las Vegas, or wherever you are. Those three answers produce a real quote in one call.

When should I ship so my box arrives before Christmas?

No shipper serving Las Vegas publishes a holiday cutoff date on its website, so we will not invent one. But you can do the arithmetic yourself from the one transit figure that is published.

Manila Forwarder’s stated ocean window is 30 to 45 days to Metro Manila. Count back from Dec. 20: a 45-day shipment had to leave by about Nov. 5, and even a 30-day shipment has to leave by about Nov. 20. Provincial addresses outside Metro Manila add more time after the box lands.

That means the sea window for Christmas is closing now. If your box is not on its way yet, call your shipper this week and ask one question: will a box I drop off today arrive by Christmas? Ask for its specific cutoff — every company sets its own, and the ones that fill containers fastest cut off earliest.

If you miss the sea window, air cargo is the fallback. Manila Forwarder publishes 3 to 7 days by air to Metro Manila. It costs considerably more, but it is the difference between a box arriving in December and a box arriving in February.

Your duty-free privilege under Philippine law

This is the part people get wrong most often, and getting it wrong costs money at the port. These figures come directly from the Bureau of Customs.

The ₱150,000 limit

Balikbayan boxes are exempt from duties and taxes on personal and household effects valued at not more than ₱150,000. Go over that value and the excess becomes taxable. The legal basis is Republic Act 10863, the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, Section 800(g), implemented through Customs Administrative Order 1-2018 and Customs Memorandum Order 18-2018.

Three boxes per year

The exemption applies up to three times in a calendar year. You can send more boxes than that — the fourth box is not illegal — but it does not carry the tax-free privilege.

Who actually qualifies

Here is the distinction that trips families up. Anyone can send a balikbayan box. Only Qualified Filipinos While Abroad get the tax exemption: overseas Filipino workers and resident Filipino citizens temporarily staying in another country.

If you are a naturalized US citizen sending a box to relatives, read the Bureau of Customs guidance carefully or ask your consolidator how your status is treated before you assume the exemption applies to you.

The paperwork

Your consolidator will ask for an Information Sheet, available from customs.gov.ph or from the consolidator itself, plus a photocopy of the biographical page of your passport. Include invoices or receipts if you have them. Fill the sheet out honestly — undervaluing contents is exactly what triggers an inspection.

What not to pack in a balikbayan box

Two separate lists apply: what Philippine law prohibits, and what your shipper refuses to carry. Violate the first and you risk confiscation and criminal penalties under RA 10863. Violate the second and your box simply gets rejected at the counter.

Prohibited by Philippine law

The Bureau of Customs lists these as prohibited importations:

  • Written or printed material advocating treason, rebellion, insurrection, or sedition
  • Goods, instruments, drugs, and substances intended for producing unlawful abortion
  • Obscene or immoral written material, films, photographs, and engravings
  • Goods made of gold, silver, or other precious metals whose stamp or mark misstates the actual fineness
  • Adulterated or misbranded food, goods for human consumption, or drugs
  • Counterfeit and infringing goods under the Intellectual Property Code
  • Anything else explicitly prohibited by law

That sixth item deserves a flag. Counterfeit goods are prohibited. The bag or the sneakers you are not sure about belong outside the box.

Restricted — legal only with a permit

These require authorization from the relevant regulatory agency before import:

  • Explosives, firearms, and weapons
  • Gambling equipment and machines
  • Lottery tickets
  • Narcotics and controlled substances
  • Opium pipes
  • Other goods restricted by law

In practice, do not put any of these in a balikbayan box. Consolidators will not carry them, and you will not have the permit.

What your shipper refuses

Carriers apply their own rules on top of the law. Manila Forwarder, for example, states it will not ship hazardous materials, automobile tires, oils, items over 150 lbs, breakables, or anything it deems unsafe — and reserves the right to refuse any shipment.

Other carriers draw their lines in different places. Ask yours specifically about batteries, aerosols, and perishable food before you pack, because policies vary and we found no single published standard across companies.

Frequently asked questions

How many balikbayan boxes can I send per year tax-free?

Three. The Bureau of Customs allows the duty and tax exemption up to three times in a calendar year for Qualified Filipinos While Abroad. You may send additional boxes beyond three, but those extra shipments do not carry the tax-free privilege and may be assessed duties and taxes on arrival.

What is the peso value limit for a balikbayan box?

₱150,000. Personal and household effects valued at not more than ₱150,000 are exempt from duties and taxes, under Section 800(g) of Republic Act 10863 as implemented by CAO 1-2018. Value above that threshold becomes taxable, so declare contents accurately on your Information Sheet rather than underestimating.

Can I drop off a balikbayan box in person in Las Vegas?

Yes. Atlas Shippers International operates a branch at 2600 S. Maryland Parkway, Unit C, Las Vegas, NV 89109, open Monday through Saturday from 10am to 7pm and closed Sunday. It also lists a drop-off-only location at The Postal Box, 6020 W. Badura Ave., Suite 110. Manila Forwarder also lists Las Vegas in its coverage area. Call ahead to confirm drop-off versus scheduled home pickup.

How much does a balikbayan box from Las Vegas cost?

None of the shippers serving Las Vegas publishes a flat rate online. Atlas quotes by phone or through its customer portal, Manila Forwarder uses an online calculator, and LBC quotes through its booking system. Prices shift with fuel, destination province, and delivery type, so get a current quote directly.

When is the cutoff to ship for Christmas delivery?

No shipper publishes a fixed cutoff date, and each company sets its own. Using the one published transit figure — Manila Forwarder’s 30 to 45 days by ocean to Metro Manila — a sea shipment has to leave Las Vegas between early November and about Nov. 20 to arrive by Dec. 20. After that, air cargo is the safer bet for Christmas. Call your shipper to confirm its exact deadline.
