Ownership and Funding

The Philippine Times of Southern Nevada has published for the Filipino and Filipino-American community of Las Vegas and Clark County since 2006. This page explains who stands behind the paper and how it pays for itself, so readers can weigh our reporting knowing where it comes from.

Ownership

The Philippine Times of Southern Nevada is part of the MCNM Marketing network, a Las Vegas digital marketing and business development company. We are a locally owned and operated community newspaper. We are not part of a national newspaper chain, and we are not owned or controlled by a government, a political party, a campaign, or an advocacy organization.

Because of that relationship, one disclosure rule applies without exception: when we report on MCNM Marketing, on a company MCNM works with, or on any business that advertises with us, we say so inside the story. Readers should never have to discover a connection after the fact.

How We Are Funded

Our revenue comes from three sources, all of them local:

  • Advertising. Display advertising, classified ads, and insert distribution bought by local businesses, professional practices, and community organizations across Southern Nevada. Classified rates start at $50.
  • Reader subscriptions. Optional reader plans, from free through $39 a year. Our journalism is free to read online whether or not you subscribe — subscriptions support the newsroom and add print delivery.
  • Business production services. Recurring production, printing, and insert distribution plans for local businesses.

No single advertiser accounts for a controlling share of our revenue, and no advertiser has ever been given approval over editorial content.

Editorial Independence

News decisions are made by the newsroom.

  • Advertisers, sponsors, and business partners do not review stories before publication.
  • Buying advertising does not buy coverage, a favorable mention, or protection from coverage.
  • Sponsored content, advertorials, and paid business features are labeled wherever they appear, in print and online.
  • Withdrawing advertising has never changed and will never change a reporting decision.

The full policy, including how we source and correct our reporting, is in our Editorial Standards and Corrections Policy. The people who produce the paper are listed on our masthead.
