Prosecution Receives VP Sara’s Financial Records

The House prosecution panel has received copies of the bank and tax records it sought from Vice President Sara Z. Duterte, her husband Manases “Mans” Carpio, and their companies. House prosecutor and Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon said the Senate impeachment court released the records on Wednesday afternoon, after completing inventory and security procedures, clearing the way for a detailed review.

The impeachment court granted the prosecution’s requests for the financial records in July. Six banks subsequently submitted records involving Duterte and Carpio, and the Bureau of Internal Revenue delivered their tax documents. Article II of the impeachment trial accuses Duterte of accumulating wealth allegedly disproportionate to her lawful income, failing to make full disclosures in her Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth, and continuing business interests while serving as Vice President. Duterte’s defense has disputed the allegations.

Ridon said the prosecution was preparing to begin presenting Article II by mid- or late September, once the expected confidential-fund evidence is complete, and that the records would be tested against the specific claims in the article before any document is presented in court.
