Las Vegas Fil-Am Community Engages 40+ Candidates at NaFFAA Forum

By Dr. Michael Stajuana — “News in Photos with Kuya Sol,” Philippine Times of Southern Nevada

Southern Nevada’s Filipino-American community took a hands-on role this election season. Specifically, a Candidates Forum was held on May 16 at the Celebrity Center in Las Vegas. Notably, the event let residents meet more than 40 candidates running for local offices. As a result, attendees heard directly about each candidate’s platform.

A Collaborative Civic Effort

The forum was a joint project between Fil-Am Power and NaFFAA-NV. Specifically, it was organized by Fil-Am in Power, also known as POWER (Political Organization With Equal Representation). As a non-partisan grassroots group, POWER builds political clout, education, and civic representation. Above all, it serves the region’s fast-growing Filipino-American population.

About NaFFAA-NV

NaFFAA-NV is the Nevada chapter of the National Federation of Filipino American Associations. In fact, it is the largest non-profit representing Filipinos and Filipino Americans in the United States. Through community empowerment, the group promotes civic engagement, voter education, and immigrant rights. Meanwhile, it also advocates against discrimination and racial stereotyping.

Why It Matters

For a community whose numbers continue to grow across the valley, direct access to candidates is a powerful tool. Therefore, events like this forum help translate population growth into real political voice ahead of Nevada’s 2026 elections.
