Las Vegas is poised to welcome another vibrant cultural district. On November 5th, Clark County Commissioners took a significant step toward establishing Filipino Town, a dedicated area along Maryland Parkway between Flamingo Road and Desert Inn Road. The initial presentation of the application was well received by the board. The application now must go through the standard process and a few more hearing until it is officially voted upon.

The proposal, spearheaded by community leader Rozita Lee, garnered strong support from the Filipino American community. A large group of community leaders and business owners, many adorned in traditional Filipino attire, attended the County Commission meeting to express their enthusiasm for the project.

Ms. Lee, affectionately known as “Manang” Rozita, delivered a compelling presentation to the commissioners, highlighting the significance of recognizing the Filipino American community’s contributions to Las Vegas. The proposed Filipino Town would encompass a variety of businesses, including popular Filipino restaurants, grocery stores, and media outlets, creating a cultural hub that celebrates Filipino heritage and fosters community pride.

As Manang Rozita concluded her presentation, she shared a quote from a friend: “This idea whose time has come. And yes, it is time for Filipino Town.” This sentiment echoed the collective desire of the Filipino American community to have a dedicated space to celebrate their culture and heritage. With the support of local leaders and the enthusiasm of the community, the dream of Filipino Town is one step closer to reality.
